bridge envy

Bridge between HK and Macau/Zhuhai, for cars, to be built. Are we still promoting more vehicle traffic? Is something hatched up in the 1980's, by one of the major bidders, still valid? Why can it not be a rail/traffic bridge, I would love to be able to jump on a train and go to Macau for the weekend. Whilst Tai O got a breather from the Container 10 Port yesterday (it apparently maybe built in Tsing Yi), now it has to deal with an elevated highway.

Shanghai Bund makeover

That flyover at the end of the Bund is being removed, cuz they realised that a big fat flyover on the waterfront is actually a really stupid idea. Are we watching Hong Kong? From Shanghai Daily:

Eventually, the elevated ramp will be replaced by a lower ramp linking the elevated road to the tunnel.

The new tunnel, running for 3.3 kilometers, will become an underground artery between Hongkou and Huangpu districts.

feet, dancing feet

From Creative Review: Transport For London has turned to graphic design in an attempt to make it easier to get on and off crowded tubes.

I always think the graphics on the Hong Kong is inadequate - it encourages us to leave a 20cm gap for exit passengers and the crowd at the back inevitably crowds together leaving 10cm.

I think Bangkok's skytrain has the best graphic: the exit zone widens as it moves away from the train - which is what the exit flow tend to want to do - and suggests boarding people wait in the space between the doors, which is the intelligent thing to do and makes maximum use of the space on the platform.
